“In the big empty hallways I could hear a voice, so I started to walk towards it. If there was a voice in there with me it was probably gonna be friendly right? So I figured that I could just find the voice, and whoever it was would be able to help me get out of the place. Plus I knew I had lost the bear already, so I had to find some way out.

“So I followed the voice until I came to this big room full of dead bodies. The place smelled so awful I had to cover up my nose at first. Imagine a room twice the size as this one, filled with four or five piles of dead people just stacked up in a heap. The source of the voice I followed was an old man talking to himself as he rifled through one of the heaps.

“At this point, I was a little shocked, but I wasn’t scared. So I watched the old man quietly, trying to figure out if it was safe to show myself or not. I could hear the old guy mumbling to himself; something about a body being stuck, and needing to find another. So I figured the guy must have been evil. I figured he killed everyone in here and piled them up, and was now pulling out a living guy to finish off the job.

“I would have known for sure if I didn’t strip over a dead guy’s arm and make a bunch of noise. The old guy looked over at me and shouted ‘Who’s There!?’ but I had already stood up and I started running to the corner of the room. I hid behind one of the dead bodies and crossed my fingers the twisted murderer wouldn’t find me.

“He started to call out to me. ‘Wait, kid, I’m not gonna hurt you!’ he said. ‘What are you doing here?’ he said. Then, he said to himself ‘What on earth is a ten-year-old kid doing here in this rotten place?’ So I popped up and told him ‘I’m not ten, I’m twelve`!’

“I wasn’t gonna let some stinky old murder man get to me, and when I got away he was gonna know who it was that beat him. I told him ‘I’m Claus, and I’ll hurt you if you come near me!’ The old man stopped in his tracks and looked at me funny, before saying ‘Claus, I’m not gonna hurt you. My name is Sameaul, and I need to know what you’re doing here.

“So I told him how I was running away from a big scary black bear. How I escaped certain danger at the hands of a menacing monster. I told him how I dodged and hid away until I ended up in this spooky place, and how I was tough so if he tried to do anything to me he wouldn’t get away with it.

“He didn’t really pay attention to that, and instead asked about the stupid bear that attacked me. He was all surprised to know that there was a bear in here with us, so he started to freak out about how to get to safety.

“I said ‘pfffft it’s no big deal. I totally lost it back there’ and I pointed to the door I came in through.

“Just then, the two of us hear the doors slam open, and the black bear roared into the room we were in. The old man froze in place, as the bear started to stomp into the room, so I had to grab the old man’s hand and start to run the two of us away.

“We barely got to the other side of the room before the thing was right on top of us! The old man tripped and fell over and his hand slipped away. So I did the only thing I could think of to save us both.

“In the bear's back-left leg was a trac-gun harpoon shot, so I ran up and yanked it out of his leg! I gripped the thing like a spear and stood in front of the bear. It stood up on its hind legs and roared at me, but when it came down I shoved the harpoon right into its chest! The thing screamed so loud I swear I almost went deaf, and then it turned and tried to run away, stumbling over itself.

“Not much longer the Military Tribe showed up following the trac gun signal, and they saved the two of us. They told me that the bear had bled to death not far off, and I was a hero for killing it all on my own.

“That! Is the story of how I got accepted to the military tribe at 12 years old.”
